Ouff I felt all of this in my soul. I am here with 16 rejections under my belt but I can say that finding substack and posting my words here has been such a breath of fresh air. Finding community and releasing our words on our own can also be so liberating.
16 missed opportunities on the publishers' part! Your writing is always a joy to read, and I have found so much comfort in your words while we all watch the horrors unleashed on our beloveds in Palestine this past year. I love hearing your perspective as a nurse, a Muslim, a emerging writer, and a compassionate human being who clearly loves people so dearly. I honestly think your work has the power to make for kinder, more compassionate people in future generations as your voice finds more readers.
Your writing and those 16 rejections just go to show that a publication's no is hardly a reflection of a writer's work. Thankfully, we have other ways of finding each other.
Substack has brought such a wonderful community of writers into my life whom I would not know if traditional publishing were the only means to find new authors. While the rejections sting, it's good to know that none of us are alone in this and we have one another for support.
Awwww thank you for making me smile. Your comments mean so much thank you thank you. And right back at you. Your writing shows that you have a big heart and it is so wonderful to get to read your words and feel less alone in the advocacy of Palestine and as a writer. Community is everything
