Dear Beloved,
January was long, and the first 11 days of February was a long march to you now. We are tired - and I will not count the reasons why with you, as I have no desire to join any potential doom scrolling.
seedgiver is not a reactionary newsletter. It is a responsive one - responding to the world, to our community, to you and me and what we experience and imagine together. There is a great deal of hardship in the world. But for all its cruelty, for all the bad things happening carried out by evil people who can never have enough, they are but inevitable dust in the wind.
Empires fall. The Earth has seen humanity build monuments to vanity and greed many times, and she has embraced every piece in her soils. There is starlight older than humanity, let alone any regime, shining on us now, Beloved.
Whatever happens, we will return to where we came - soil and stardust.
Today I share with you, Beloved, some comfort and offerings for connection. Think of it as an entire newsletter dedicated to “Seeds for Change.”
1. Forest Frequencies w. Dianna Lopez - Anytime
First, music.
As Zack de la Rocha said, “I think every revolutionary act is an act of love. Every song that I've written, it is because of my desire to use music as a way to empower and re-humanize people who are living in a dehumanizing setting. The song is in order to better the human condition.”
2. Multi-Faith Prayer Circle - Sunday, Feb. 16, 11 AM PST
Facilitated by faith and spiritual leaders from many practices, this virtual multi-faith prayer circle offers a place to ground, grieve, and connect in the face of the many adversities around us.
“We come together to pray a multitude of voices, languages, streams of traditions with the intention that these practices can irrigate us, steady us, open us, fortify us, anchor us, & move us towards radical action in our ongoing commitment to & work for a free Palestine, for collective liberation, for protection and thriving and belonging for all beings everywhere – knowing that prayers are not enough, knowing that the notion of praying is sometimes used as a way to bypass the rigorous work that is required in this moment.
”And we will be rigorous in our prayers – praying together not as a way to bring comfort or ease for ourselves, but to continue to be steadfast, to move & act with courage & conviction. Prayer as non-compliance. Prayer as resistance.”
3. Watch Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - Thursday, Feb. 13, 6 PM PST
Ghibli movies are good for the soul, and the Sunrise Movement are hosting a virtual movie night! Register to get the link and watch Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in community.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is based in the far future after an apocalyptic event which has destroyed most of the world’s ecosystem. The story follows princess Nausicaä as she works to restore peace to her world, providing the thought provoking “what if” on our own future climate.
After the movie, there will be a group discussion on how the movie made you feel, current events, and what next steps we can take moving forward.

6. Revolutionary Letters by Diane di Prima - All the Time
We return with the sea, the tides we return as often as leaves, as numerous as grass, gentle, insistent, we remember the way, our babes toddle barefoot thru the cities of the universe
- Revolutionary Letter #4
URGENT: Keep an Elder Housed
Despite Wal-Mart’s $157 billion profit last year, an elder was recently laid off by the company after 20 years of work. She is scared for her safety because of the regime’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and increased ICE raids, so this has hindered her ability to safely apply for new work.
Her family is doing all they can to keep her housed and home with them in the United States, even selling two vehicles to fund her housing. However, if they are unable to raise the funds in a week, she will be evicted and likely have to move to Mexico.
This family needs $2,400 this week to prevent an eviction and keep their elder home with them.
