on the edge of cloudburst
Dear Beloved,
I write these words in a fading August, cradled by the smell of water on soil. Outside my window, I hear singing cicadas. After a long drought, the Great Plains’ skies swell with promising clouds. There can be rain at any moment.
It’s quiet on the edge of cloudburst.
I came across a verse from the Quaran today. From Surah Al-Khaf, its English translation reads, “And Allah sends down rain from the sky, giving life to the earth after its death. Surely in this is a sign for those who listen.”
On the other side of drought, return of life is evident in the long grasses, frogs’ mating calls, insect song, and the bird nest that’s found a home in a crevice of my balcony. The rain comes in sudden luxurious cloudbursts. Otherwise, gray clouds float along the endless prairie skies.
Uniting For Peace Resolution UN RES.377(V)
A super-majority of the world’s nations already support Palestine. Utilizing a lesser-known process called Uniting for Peace, our UN representatives possess the numbers and the authority to override the US veto to:
Send a multinational protection force to Palestine, providing food and medicine, ending the blockade, and protecting civilians.
Implement sanctions and a military embargo on Israel.
Withdraw Israel’s UN credentials, establish a war crimes tribunal, and more.
Join the webinar to learn how and spread the word.
September 18 marks a critical one-year deadline set by the UN General Assembly for Israel to comply with the World Court and the UN in relation to the UN resolutions on Palestine – or face concrete measures like those listed above. The UN could potentially vote as soon as September 18.
By urging governments and UN representatives that have previously supported Palestine to hold the line, we can pass a measure with real teeth to end genocide.
Join the upcoming webinar on genocide to help launch this global movement.
Today we live in a political drought - deprived of decency, long passed pretense. Our world is on fire, and the fascists are kidnapping firefighters. Our world is on fire, and the government is selling our land for oil. Our world is on fire, and the oligarchs want to steal our water for their data centers.
We are in a political drought, the world is on fire, and we are waiting for rain. We also stand on the edge of cloudburst.
Clouds are gathering. The people are moving. Whether you believe in god or God or the earth or people or simply in change, you must believe that another world is imminent.
Selah.
Listen.
